As autumn draws nearer, we’re all looking for more comforting TV – and softer textures and colour palettes in our own homes. Whether it’s the crackle of a fire in a Yorkshire cottage, the sun-drenched timber of a Californian oasis, or the heavy velvet drapery of a Gilded Age mansion, set design can do so much more than simply provide a backdrop to the action: it can create a world.
So we’ve gone through the archives, checked out the streaming platforms and found the most sumptuously decorated, cosy and inviting interiors to give you styling inspiration for the seasons ahead.
Best dramas to stream and watch for cosy interiors
Little House on the Prairie
Netflix’s 2026 TV adaptation of Laura Ingalls Wilder’s classic American book series, Little House on the Prairie, has ushered in the new season of prairie core – a sort of ‘homestead chic’ aesthetic, with raw textures, patchwork quilts and a homespun feel.

The Four Seasons
As the eight-episode arc of Four Seasons takes place over, you guessed it, four seasons, we are treated to at least four consistent backdrops across each series. Season 2 of the comedy-drama miniseries takes us to a rustic motel in upstate New York, Jersey Shore beaches, a lake house and an alpine Italian town.
The Catskills motel has a 50s style, with wood cladding and upholstered furniture, while Claude’s family home in the Alps is studded with tapestries and frescoes, with high ceilings and soft furnishings.

Gilmore Girls
A step back in time, comedy-drama Gilmore Girls is a charming ode to the cosy style of noughties TV. Think cottagecore, but with a sprinkling of Americana. Taking its lead from the domestic backdrops of Nora Ephron’s films, Gilmore Girls delivers layer upon layer of overflowing bookshelves, mismatched flea-market finds and a chaotic clutter that instantly feels like home.

Anatomy of a Scandal
Set in a Georgian Mayfair townhouse, Anatomy of a Scandal sees the drama unfold in an elegant home with clean lines, soft lighting, high-end art and textured wallpaper. The seating is formal, but the colour palette is warm and inviting. It is clearly the home of the wealthy, with sophisticated styling and traditional parquet flooring throughout.
Watch in the UK and US: Netflix
Yellowstone
With a style dubbed ‘rich ranch’ by House Beautiful, Yellowstone’s design aesthetic is a mix of luxe and rustic materials, paired with furnishings that cross many decades. It’s rustic and refined, with rich, dark woods, animal hides and a timeless aesthetic. The show’s creator Taylor Sheridan was said to want a ‘sunset vibe’ in the ranch’s lodge.

Watch in the UK: Netflix and Paramount+
The Durrells
While a Corfu summer setting doesn’t necessarily evoke a cosy, autumnal spirit, there’s something about the sun-bleached pastel walls and bohemian Mediterranean aesthetic of the Durrell family’s 1930s crumbling Corfu house that feels wonderfully ‘lived-in’. The perfect backdrop to a comforting low-stakes drama.

Big Little Lies
This dark-comedy drama follows a group of mothers in Monterey, California, whose lives all seem to be perfect on the surface – but gradually unravel over the course of the show. The women’s homes capture this dichotomy, aspirational at first glance – but with something not quite right.
The beachfront home of Madeline (played by Reese Witherspoon) is classic, with the action centred around the kitchen. It’s catalogue-perfect, but missing the personal touches you might expect in a home. Celeste’s home, meanwhile, is stylish, with lots of patterned rugs and textures. Bonnie’s sanctuary is a treehouse-style retreat, built almost exclusively from wood and neatly sat within the surrounding landscape.
Watch in the US and the UK: HBO Max
Sirens
Sirens shares a similar uncanny, uncomfortable feeling at the centre of the action with Big Little Lies. Extreme wealth, luxurious stylings and everything you could wish for – but perhaps it’s too perfect? Sirens’ waterfront estate brings the colours and textures of the seafront inside, with blue hues, coastal decor and rope designs and textures.
The vast kitchen is inviting – very Nancy Meyers-esque – but is dominated by the staff of the house, rather than its inhabitants. Themes of mythology and birds are elegantly woven into the designs within the home.
Watch in the UK and US: Netflix
Rivals

Set in the 1980s in a Cotswolds village, Rivals speaks perfectly to the interior design of the day. A rustic kitchen with an AGA anchors the O’Hara home, while chintzy fabrics and frills decorate the homes of many of the other characters. Portraits of horses and dogs fill the home of Rupert Campbell-Black, previously a perpetual bachelor, more emotionally invested in the lives and wellbeing of his animals.

Mr and Mrs Smith
Quiet luxury is at the heart of the Smiths’ elegant brownstone, with cream shades throughout. In the kitchen, a concrete countertop is set off by a backsplash of blue and sage tiles, a herringbone parquet floor underfoot. Everything’s high tech, but deeply stylish.

The Gilded Age
The name gives it away – opulence is the order of the day when it comes to the interiors of The Gilded Age. The characters’ mansions are decorated with dramatic murals, Greek columns and elegant gold trimmings on everything from the ceilings to the picture frames. Seating is quilted, and beds are framed by layers of drapes.

All Creatures Great and Small
Filmed on location in the Yorkshire Dales, All Creatures Great and Small brings dramatic, often bleak English landscapes to the screen – but with it come a series of warm and inviting sanctuaries inside, to escape from the wild and woolly English weather. Skeldale House, the veterinary surgery and home of the show’s main characters, features cozy armchairs and a scullery, the bustling area where Mrs Hall, the housekeeper, cooks breakfast.

Watch in the UK: U and Channel5
The Diplomat
The Netflix political thriller follows US diplomat Kate Wyler, played by Keri Russell, who is unexpectedly appointed as the ambassador to the UK during a period of global political crisis. Much of the action unfolds in her offices at the embassy, but many of the moments of serious diplomatic negotiations take place in the embassy’s public rooms, featuring bold artworks and globally influenced designs, including, in one notable scene, a stunning chinoiserie wallpaper.

My Brilliant Career
Based on Australian author Miles Franklin’s classic 1901 novel, My Brilliant Career is the only TV series in this list based in rural Australia – providing the Antipodean equivalent of cosy interiors. Blending 1900s Australian heritage architecture with the stylings of a European manor, the estates mix period woodwork and stone detailing with elaborate hand-painted floral walls.
Watch in the UK and US: Netflix
Bridgerton
Netflix’s hit show brought Regencycore style to the fore, with chintz, elaborate drapery and chinoiserie wallpaper. Pale greens and pink reign supreme, with the colour schemes often matched in the dresses of the characters before them.
Watch in the UK and US: Netflix
Pride and Prejudice (1995)
It’s a classic for a reason. The lofty rooms of Pemberley are now etched into all our minds, with the relatively modest, more lived-in environs of Longbourn, the home of the Bennet family.
Watch in the US: Hulu and Peacock
Watch in the UK: BBC iPlayer and U
Sex Education
The 1970s aesthetics of Sex Education come to a head in The Chalet, the home of Otis and his mother Jean, a sex therapist who works from their stunning home overlooking the River Wye in Herefordshire. The Scandinavian-style house is decorated with bold artworks, many of which focus on the human body and female form, with wood cladding providing rustic textures.
