IKEA has launched its first-ever smart radiator thermostat in Sweden, suggesting that it may soon join the retailer’s growing range of global smart home products.
The Swedish furniture giant has already made moves into smart home tech, with smart lighting, smart speakers, smart plugs, blinds, air purifiers and more.
The Liljebagge radiator thermostat allows users to adjust the temperature in each room individually and control it when they’re away. This helps reduce energy usage, saves money and tailors room comfort levels to personal preferences. The thermostat can be adjusted directly or remotely via the app, on which you can also set scheduled changes to the temperature as you would with your home’s main heating systems.

The smart radiator thermostat comes with six adaptors and five guide cards, which will fit most water-based radiators, making the thermostat easy to install. It works without an internet connection, as you can adjust the heat manually, but two AA batteries are required to provide the power. IKEA claims these should last around 18 months. The temperature can be adjusted in 0.5°C increments.
IKEA has listed the Liljebagge thermostat for 199 SEK, which works out as roughly £15, €18 or $20, a competitive price for smart radiator thermostats.
The thermostat has been built on IKEA’s integrated smart home system technology, Matter, allowing products to connect directly with smart systems from the likes of Amazon, Apple, Google, Homey and Samsung.

Its built-in display switches off when it’s not in use, so users don’t have to worry about having a permanently lit radiator screen. The product is currently only available in white.
There is no launch date currently confirmed for the rest of the global market, but the Liljebagge is already listed on IKEA’s Swedish website, so it’s likely not too far off being launched worldwide.
