While her Sex and the City character might have spent thousands on lavish furniture and designer shoes, Sarah Jessica Parker’s interiors purchases are clearly much more understated.
During her time as one of the judges for the 2025 Booker Prize, Parker took time off from reading to engage in a little light IKEA construction.
She needed a night light to get through the 153 novels submitted for the award over seven months. That’s more than 21 books per month, between five and seven a week. With the longest book on the list that year (Kiran Desai’s The Loneliness of Sonia and Sunny) clocking in at over 650 pages, Sarah Jessica Parker was having to read at all hours of the day to get through the reading marathon.
The lamp in question? IKEA’s classic Kuddlava table lamp, which sells for just £12. It’s now in situ at her sprawling mega-mansion in the West Village neighbourhood in New York City, where Parker lives with her husband, the actor Matthew Broderick, and their twin daughters Tabitha and Marion. The pair also have a son, James, who is 23 years old. Broderick and Parker purchased a pair of townhouses next to one another in 2016, combining them to form a mega-mansion.

Parker shared a video setting up the lamp, and then showed the finished product pictured on her desk, next to a butter pot and another wide ceramic jar.
‘Thank you for the extra set of hands Tabitha’, Parker wrote in the caption, suggesting that her daughter Tabitha had aided her in the flatpack engineering process.
The Kuddlava pleated table lamp is loved by IKEA shoppers for its soft mood lighting and Scandinavian look. At least 50 per cent of its plastic materials are recycled, with a central solid wood decorative knob. The Kuddlava model also comes as a pendant lampshade, which looks great over a dining table.

“Pleated lampshades are a big passion of mine and with KUDDLAVA lamps I wanted to transform these classic shades into something new that can suit any home,” says Lukas Bazle, the lamp’s designer. “It was very important to me that the material would create that right warm glow while hiding the entire construction. The fact that 50% of the durable plastic is also recycled is an added bonus.”
If it’s good enough for Carrie Bradshaw, it’s good enough for all of us.
