The Swedish furniture giant, IKEA, and the legendary gaming brand, XBOX have joined forces to create a collection that makes gaming easier for everyone to live with.
The YXSTABY collection seamlessly blends into everyday interiors and creates a space for the whole family to enjoy playing together. The designs are so sleek and practical that you won’t feel the need to hide your tech.
XBOX brings 25 years of understanding about how people play and IKEA brings over 80 years of expertise at designing for life at home. So, this collection perfectly balances the needs of everyone.
The pieces look great and function well, but they’re full of enough design ‘easter eggs’ to please any gamer.
IKEA and XBOX worked so closely on this collection that one designer from each team worked together on every piece. Both IKEA and XBOX wanted to make play accessible to as many people as possible.
‘Each product is created by designers from both IKEA and XBOX. We could only do this together.’ says Product Developer, Philip Dilé.
Prices for the YXSTABY collection start from £12 for the iconic ‘+’ shaped cushion. Its distinctive design is inspired by the D-pad on XBOX controllers.
Not only does it create a joyful pop of colour wherever it’s placed, but it helps support your arms or back while you’re gaming.
The most expensive piece in the YXSTABY collection is a cleverly designed side-table. This neat storage solution is made with 4 castors, allowing you to move it wherever you need it most.
It was created as a savvy spot to charge your gaming controllers, with compartments that hold them in place, and a cable management hole so that you can store a power bar or an extension cable inside.
Then the sliding doors keep everything out of sight until you’re ready to play again.
Our favourite piece from the YXSTABY collection though is the Gaming thumbstick stool. At first glance it looks like a fashionable ‘seating as sculpture’ piece, the design references the famous Pols Potten Zig Zag stool.
On closer inspection however, you begin to see the diamond grip texture around the seat. Then you realise that this is not just a piece of tasteful Scandi sculpture. This stool is a supersized version of the much-loved XBOX controller thumbstick.
Its rounded base gives the stool a little bit of wobble, so you can flex and move around while sitting on it – important for those racing sims!
The IKEA and XBOX YXSTABY collection is on every gamer’s Christmas list this year, so snap it up while you can!
