We’ve always loved the design-led, always-trending stationery from lifestyle brand, Papier. They’re our go-to for stylish birthday presents in this office (and a personalised notebook was one particularly memorable leaving gift – I’m not crying, you are).
So, when we heard that they were launching their first ever range of board games, we had really high hopes. Reader, when we finally saw the new range, we were instantly in love.

They’ve combined high-end materials, like real wood, brushed brass details and velvet with a colour scheme that’s dripping in luxury. Think forest green, sapphire blue and oxblood.
These board games aren’t meant to go back in the cupboard after you’ve finished playing, they’re about to become some of the most-loved décor in your home.

Take the backgammon set. The chocolate brown and baby blue design makes the most of one of this years’ biggest colour combos. Added polka dots bring a hint of whimsy.
The wooden playing pieces and set of dices are made from wood in two different warm tones. The playing pieces are clover-shaped, a motif that appears all around this collection, and reminds us of the viral brass backplates from MG&Co.
This is a board game that takes fun seriously.

Another piece on our wishlist is the Domino set. The neat paper box is covered in a wiggly stripe design that shows off that luxurious oxblood colour.
Inside are 28 of the most adorable domino tiles we’ve ever had the joy to uncover.
They’re a rich chocolate brown with a pearlescent finish that gives them an enchanting sense of mystery. Those clover-shapes reappear as pink pips that top each domino off beautifully.

Ready for a cerebral moment? The Chess set is a real piece of sculpture. The board and playing pieces are all made from solid wood, so it immediately has a luxe feel.
We love the wobbly edge of the chess board, it’s the perfect counterpoint to the clean lines of the trending checkerboard pattern. The playing pieces are all abstract shapes (rather than a classic chess piece design with obvious horses and bishops) which adds to the modern feel.
It’ll look great (and you’ll look cleverer) when left out on your coffee table. Though, the storage box is so pretty, with a watercolour-style harlequin design, that we’d really struggle to know that to keep on display!

Taymoor Atighetchi, Papier’s Founder & CEO, says: "Papier has always been about the moments when you put your phone down: writing a letter, planning your week, keeping the photos. Games are the sociable side of that same idea. Nobody checks their phone halfway through a game of backgammon. We wanted to design sets that deserve that kind of time, and that are beautiful enough to stay out once the game's over, because the best invitation to play is a board that's already set up. And this is just the start."
