The 'ber months kick off next week, which means it's time to switch up the decor and get your home autumn-ready.
And with colder weather on the way, giving your home a cosy update is a must – as it'll make staying indoors all the more appealing.
But if your bank account has taken a hit after an expensive summer, don't stress! We've consulted with an interior designer, and she's revealed the must-have items that will transform your home into an autumnal oasis on a budget.

How to give your home an autumnal update for less
1. Switch up the soft furnishings
Maxine Brady, an interior stylist and co-host of the How to Home podcast, advises that one of the easiest ways to give your scheme autumnal vibes is by changing up a few soft furnishings.
'Every September, I swap out my lighter cushions and throws for heavier, more textural versions. Look out for textures like bouclé, chunky knits, velvet and faux fur – layering up these different materials on a sofa will instantly make your room look and feel cosier,' she says.
So add plenty of soft blankets and fuzzy cushions to sofas and beds to make snuggling up on chilly days extra cosy! To maximise the autumnal feel, choose brown or orange pieces, as they'll match the shade of falling leaves.
2. Change your lampshades
Another simple way you can add a touch of autumn to your scheme, is by swapping your lampshades.
"Warm amber or terracotta shades give a cosy glow, and they can cost as little as a few pounds in charity shops,’ she explains.
If you're able to shop second-hand, we strongly recommend doing so. Both the planet and you bank account will thank you for opting for a pre-loved item.
But if you can't find what you're looking for, or are a bit short on time, treat yourself to one of these gorgeous lampshades and fill your home with a soothing, warm orange light.
3. Add some woodland foliage to your scheme

When we hear the word 'autumn', we instantly think of crunchy amber leaves and fallen conkers.
So bringing these natural elements indoors is an easy way to give your space a seasonal refresh. Plus, they're great for adding autumnal colour and texture to your scheme.
Maxine recommends foraging for materials and making your own home decor, which will cost you next to nothing. 'Pick up ivy, branches, pine cones and leaves on your walks and use these to decorate your mantelpiece and table tops. You could even make a homemade wreath,' she says.
Alternatively, many high street brands offer beautiful artificial foliage decor pieces that will look fabulous in your home, and are a real bargain!
4. Update your tablescape
We love decorating our table according to the season and it doesn't have to break the bank either.
A new tablecloth or runner and a few pieces of seasonal tableware are all it takes to create a brand-new tablescape. And why not throw in some natural elements, like the pinecones you've foraged?

5. Set the atmosphere with candles
Last but certainly not least, one of the ultimate autumn decor must-haves is candles. They're the secret to creating an inviting atmosphere – adding a delicious scent and a cosy glow to your space – and are often super affordable too.
All you have to do is decide what scent you’re after (or if you want a scent at all), and you’ll be ready to set the vibe in your home and snuggle up with a good book.
The mouth-watering, sugary scents of pumpkin spice, cinnamon, and baked apple will always be a safe bet.
But if sweet scents aren't your thing, you can lean into more woody and musky notes that evoke walking through an autumnal woodland or sitting around a bonfire.
This year, we're loving fig and black pepper, as it feels autumnal while being slightly more subtle and sophisticated.
